Explore glass composition

Over the past two decades, significant advances have been made in the compositional analysis of 1st millennium CE glass. Research conducted by numerous scholars has led to the identification of at least seven major compositional groups with a wide geographical distribution across the eastern Mediterranean. These compositional groups can be broadly divided into two major production zones: Egypt and the Levantine coast (Gratuze 1988; Foy et al. 2003; Freestone 2005).
